FAQ
The questions the made-to-order model creates, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, email us.
Made to order
Why does it take so long?
Because your piece doesn't exist when you order it. The fabric is on the roll at our factory; your size is cut, sewn and finished after your order comes through. You're waiting on production, not on a warehouse picker.
When exactly will it arrive?
You get a specific ship-by date at checkout, not a range. See lead times and shipping.
What if it's late?
We email you before the date passes with a new one and the option to cancel for a full refund.
Is this custom tailoring?
No. We cut to standard sizes from published measurements. Your piece is cut for your order, not adjusted to your body.
Will something sell out before I order it?
Not in the usual sense. Because nothing is made in advance, there is no size curve to run down — every size is available in every fabric for as long as we carry the style.
Shipping and delivery
Where do you ship from?
Directly from the factory in China that cut and sewed your piece. There's no warehouse in between.
How do I track my order?
Your tracking number is emailed the moment the factory hands your parcel to the carrier. Before that there's nothing to track, because the piece is still being made — which is why we email you the day your fabric is cut.
Sizing and fit
How do I know what size to order?
Every product page has flat garment measurements for every size, plus the fit intent for that style. Start at size and fit. If you're still unsure, email us your measurements and we'll tell you which size we'd cut.
Returns
Can I return a made-to-order piece?
Yes. Sewn uses the same returns policy as the rest of Emme — see returns and exchanges. And if we miss the ship-by date we promised, you can cancel for a full refund.
Fabric and care
How should I wash it?
Machine wash cold, hang dry, no fabric softener. Full detail on care and repair.
What is Tillcloth? What is Reedcloth?
Our two house fabrics — a 150 gsm cotton double gauze and a 240 gsm ramie-cotton, garment washed. Both are on our fabrics.
Can I get fabric samples before I order?
Not yet. For now the closest thing is the fiber content, weight and drape description we publish for every fabric on our fabrics — and if you tell us what you're deciding between, we'll describe the difference in the hand honestly.
The brand
Where is Sewn made?
China, at the same factories that make Emme Mama.
Is Sewn the same company as Emme Mama?
Yes. Same team, same factories, same construction standards — without the bump.
Do you have sales?
No clearance section, because we don't produce garments nobody asked for.
